Terms of Service

The terms for using the Utterflow website and browser extension

Applies to: utterflow.com and the Utterflow browser extension
Effective date: November 1, 2026

Introduction

Utterflow ("we", "us") is a browser extension that reads web pages aloud and types what you dictate, together with this website, where you sign in, manage your account and open the pages you saved.

By installing or using the extension, or by using this website, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use Utterflow.

Your Utterflow account is the same account you may know from cosyvoice.org: both websites are run by the same team and use one account system and one database. Signing in on either site signs you in to the same account. cosyvoice.org is the place where that shared account and existing memberships live; these terms cover Utterflow only.

Description of Services

Utterflow provides:

  • Read aloud. The extension turns the text of a web page, or the part you select, into speech, with word highlighting.
  • Dictation. The extension turns your speech into text and types it into the text field you choose.
  • Saved pages. You can save pages to your library and open them later in the extension or on this website. The library may also offer listening to saved pages.
  • Account and plan. This website lets you sign in with Google, connect the extension to your account, and see your plan and audio minutes.

Plans:

  • Free. A free plan with a monthly allowance of audio minutes (currently 15 minutes per rolling month) and other limits described in the extension and on this website.
  • Pro. A paid plan. Audio minutes are not metered for normal use, subject to the fair-use rules below.

We may change features, limits and allowances over time.

Eligibility

You must be old enough to form a binding contract where you live. Utterflow is not meant for children under 13 (under 16 in the EU and UK). If you use Utterflow on behalf of an organization, you confirm that you may bind it to these terms.

Your Account

  • You sign in with Google. Give accurate information and keep it up to date.
  • You are responsible for what happens under your account, including sessions you create for the extension. Keep your sign-in secure and tell us promptly if you think someone else has access.
  • Do not share your account, or sell or transfer access to it.
  • Because the account is shared with cosyvoice.org, a change to the account on one site (such as a suspension or deletion) applies to both.

Using the Extension

  • The extension acts only on pages you choose. It reads, saves or sends page text when you start reading, press Save, or otherwise use a feature. What is sent where is described in the Privacy Policy.
  • You are responsible for the content you use with Utterflow. You must have the right to have the content of a page read aloud, to save it, and to send it to our speech providers. Follow the terms of the websites you visit and the law that applies to you. Utterflow does not give you any right to content on the pages you read.
  • When you dictate, your voice is recorded only while dictation is on, and the recording is processed to produce text. Dictate only your own speech or speech you are allowed to record. If other people can be heard, you are responsible for any consent that the law requires.
  • Spoken and typed output can be wrong. Check it before you rely on it, especially for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions.
  • You install the extension from the Chrome Web Store (or another browser store). That store's terms also apply to the installation and updates.

Your Content

"Your content" means the text you have read aloud, the audio you dictate, and the pages you save, with their text and titles.

  • You keep all rights you have in your content. We claim no ownership of it.
  • You give us permission to process your content only as needed to run the features you use: to create audio, to produce text from your dictation, and to store and show your saved pages. How we handle it is described in the Privacy Policy.
  • Limits on size, number of saved pages and request frequency may apply. We may remove saved pages that break these terms.
  • You can delete saved pages at any time in the extension or under Settings → Library on this website.

User Obligations

By using Utterflow, you agree to:

  • Comply with all applicable local, state, national and international laws, treaties and regulations.
  • Use Utterflow only for lawful purposes and in line with the Acceptable Use section below.
  • Respect the intellectual property, privacy, publicity and personality rights of other people.
  • Provide accurate information when you sign in and keep your account secure.

Acceptable Use and Prohibited Content

You may not use Utterflow to read aloud, dictate, save, send or distribute content that contains, depicts, promotes or facilitates any of the following six prohibited categories:

  1. Adult sexual and sexually explicit content (NSFW):
    • Sexually explicit content, pornography, or material that depicts or is mainly designed to cause sexual arousal.
    • This applies in every language and format, including erotic roleplay, sexually suggestive or explicit dialogue, and sexual solicitation.
  2. Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and child sexual exploitation and abuse (CSAE):
    • Any sexual content, sexualization, exploitation or abuse involving anyone under 18.
    • Zero tolerance. Any attempt to use Utterflow with CSAM or CSAE will result in immediate and permanent account termination and, where the law requires or allows, reporting to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement.
  3. Non-consensual sexual content and deceptive impersonation:
    • Non-consensual intimate images, audio or text, including "revenge porn".
    • Using Utterflow to impersonate real people, including public figures and private individuals, to deceive, defraud, defame, manipulate public opinion, or interfere with elections and civic processes.
  4. Violence, gore and self-harm:
    • Depictions of real-world gore, graphic violence or severe physical harm.
    • Content that glorifies, incites, encourages, facilitates or threatens violence against any person, group or community.
    • Content that promotes, recruits for or glorifies terrorism, violent extremism or criminal organizations.
    • Content that promotes, encourages, glorifies or gives instructions for suicide, self-harm, eating disorders or self-injury.
  5. Hate speech, harassment and discrimination:
    • Content that promotes violence, hatred, disparagement, dehumanization or discrimination against people based on protected characteristics, including race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, caste, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, medical condition or age.
    • Harassment, cyberbullying, stalking, threats of physical or reputational harm, extortion, blackmail or targeted defamation.
  6. Illegal goods, weapons, fraud and malicious activity:
    • Facilitating, promoting or giving instructions for the manufacture, sale or distribution of illegal drugs, firearms, weapons, ammunition, explosives or other regulated contraband.
    • Financial fraud, phishing, fake invoices, banking deception, identity theft, or deceptive impersonation of government agencies, banks or companies.
    • Attempting to bypass or defeat voice-based biometrics, security authentication or anti-spoofing systems.
    • Distributing malware, or carrying out denial-of-service or other attacks on infrastructure.

Reading or saving lawful news, research, education or reporting that discusses these subjects is not a violation. The rules apply to content that depicts, promotes or facilitates them.

Monitoring, Reports and Enforcement

We record usage (time, kind of use, characters, voice, language and audio length, as described in the Privacy Policy) and technical signals such as request volume and repeated failures. We use them to measure audio minutes and to detect abuse, automation and unauthorized access. We do not store the text you have read aloud or the audio you dictate, so we cannot routinely review it. We investigate reports and signals of abuse, and may involve human review.

If we determine or reasonably suspect that you have violated these terms, we may:

  • Suspend or terminate your account and your access to Utterflow, without prior notice.
  • Forfeit unused allowances and prepaid fees. To the extent the law permits, a termination for a violation of the Acceptable Use section ends all unused allowances and prepaid fees, and no refund is given.
  • Remove content, including saved pages, that breaks these terms.
  • Report to authorities. Violations involving CSAM, credible threats of violence or self-harm, or active financial fraud will be referred to NCMEC or the relevant law enforcement and regulatory authorities.
  • Seek legal remedies, including injunctive relief and damages, for losses caused by violations.

To report a suspected violation, write to us through the contact page. Include what happened, where it happened, and any evidence you have. Reports of CSAM, non-consensual sexual content or imminent harm are handled first.

Licenses and Restrictions

Utterflow, including the extension, this website and their design, is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property law. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the extension and use this website for your own use, under these terms. We keep all other rights.

You may not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile or otherwise tamper with our software, unless the law permits it.
  • Disrupt or interfere with the stability, security or performance of Utterflow or the systems behind it.
  • Access our servers by any means other than the extension and this website, or use scripts, bots or scrapers on them.
  • Share, copy or extract the session tokens the extension keeps, or use them outside the extension.
  • Get around free limits, usage metering or other limits, or resell or redistribute the service.
  • Use Utterflow to spread misinformation or create deceptive content.

Ownership of Output

The speech and text that Utterflow produces from your content is for your use:

  • Free plan. For personal, non-commercial purposes.
  • Pro plan. Including commercial use, as far as these terms and the terms of the third-party services in the next section allow.

We do not store the audio or the text that dictation produces, and we claim no ownership of them. You remain solely responsible for holding all rights, licenses and consents needed for the content you use with Utterflow and for how you use the output.

Third-Party Services

Utterflow relies on services we do not control, such as Google (sign-in), Microsoft (the read-aloud speech service and Azure speech), Cloudflare and Groq (hosting and speech recognition), the Chrome Web Store, and our payment processor. These services have their own terms and privacy policies, listed in part in our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for them. They may change, fail or stop being available, and Utterflow features that depend on them may change or stop working. We may replace a provider with another.

Websites you read or save with Utterflow are third-party content. We do not control them and we are not responsible for them.

Plans, Payments, Renewal, Cancellation and Refunds

This section applies to plans you buy on utterflow.com. A membership you bought on cosyvoice.org stays governed by cosyvoice.org's terms, including its billing and refund terms. It carries over to Utterflow with no second purchase, but buying it does not make cosyvoice.org's terms apply to your other use of Utterflow.

  • Payment processing. Payments on utterflow.com are handled by a payment processor (currently Stripe). By buying a plan, you agree to the processor's terms. We receive transaction details such as plan, amount, status and dates, and we do not store your full card number.
  • Prices and taxes. The price and billing period are shown at checkout before you pay. Prices may not include taxes, which are added where required.
  • Renewal. Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period and are charged to your payment method until you cancel. If a payment fails, we may downgrade your account to the free plan.
  • Price changes. A price change applies from your next renewal, and we will tell you before it takes effect.
  • Cancellation. You can cancel your renewal at any time in your account settings where you bought the plan. Cancelling stops future charges, and your plan stays active until the end of your current paid billing period.
  • Unused plans are refundable. If you have not used any feature of the paid plan since you paid, you can ask for a full refund within 14 days of payment by contacting us. This honors statutory cooling-off rights.
  • Used plans are not refundable. Speech and dictation use cloud computing resources as soon as you use them. Using the paid plan, even once, counts as using the service and ends refund eligibility. Nothing here limits refund rights that the law gives you and that cannot be waived.
  • Fair use. Pro is unmetered for normal personal use. We may limit or suspend use that is automated, shared between people, resold, or far beyond normal use, or that puts the service at risk for others.

Termination

You can stop using Utterflow at any time by uninstalling the extension and signing out. To delete your account, see the Privacy Policy. Because the account is shared, account deletion happens on cosyvoice.org.

We may suspend or terminate your access if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or if your use puts Utterflow or other people at risk. We may also stop providing Utterflow or part of it.

When your access ends, your right to use Utterflow ends, and your account data is handled as described in the Privacy Policy. The sections on content, acceptable use, ownership, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity and governing law continue after termination.

Disclaimers

Utterflow is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not promise that Utterflow, or the speech and text it produces, will be accurate, uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose. Features that depend on third-party services depend on those services being available.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent the law permits, we are not liable for any damages or losses that come from the use of, or the inability to use, Utterflow, including indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, lost profits, or lost data. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, loss or expense, including reasonable legal fees, that comes from the content you use with Utterflow, your use of the output, or your breach of these terms or the law.

Governing Law and Disputes

These terms are governed by applicable law. If you have a concern, contact us first through the contact page and we will try to resolve it. Nothing in these terms limits the mandatory consumer rights you have under the law of the country where you live.

Changes to These Terms

We may change these terms. We will update the effective date above when they change and give notice on this website, or by email for significant changes. If you keep using Utterflow after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, stop using Utterflow.
